This man has been working in a sugarhouse but has had no employ for three years and only a casual day's work now and the Gout, the family consisting of a girl of eleven years and a boy of three years, were found deficient in everything and a full suit consisting of a frock, flannel petticoat, shift, apron and shoes for the girl and for the boy of a jacket, trousers, shirt, pin cloth and shoes - were consequently found wanting.
The wife not only undertook to do work for her own children but would also be very happy to take some work besides.

This family, both by their wretched appearance and by their bashful behaviour, which showed that they were not used to receive charities, excited the compassion of everyone in a very strong degree. The husband who has been working at the sugarhouse of Ryder and Nasmyth, which was burnt down about six months ago, was looking out for some work and did not appear.
The eldest daughter was employed in Spitalfields and earned a scanty livelihood, the next a girl of twelve to thirteen years was prevented from looking out for a place by her want of a respectable dress and it was resolved to stretch a little beyond the usual donations, in order to enable her to get a place.
She is therefore to receive: one gown or if at all possible two gowns, an apron, a flannel petticoat, a pair of stays, two shifts, a pair of shoes, a cap or bonnet; a girl of nine years: likewise a full suit with the exception of a shift; a girl of eight years: a full suit; and a boy of three years: a full suit with the exception of shoes. Mrs [--] although she had a very bad eye was very ready to undertake making all the clothes for her family.
